Edward II: In production.

Our winter season continues with Christopher Marlowe’s play about homosexuality, the abuse of power and a quarreling court.

King Edward recalls his lover, Gaveston, from banishment and sets in motion a chain of events that will culminate in some of the most shocking scenes in all of early modern theatre.

Designed by Jessica Worrall. Directed by Nick Bagnall.

See Edward II in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse until 20 April 2019.

The Summer Season photography.

The artwork for most
of the productions and festivals in our season features documentary photography
from the second half of the 20th century by English photographers.

As we
explore the eclectic nature of our ‘sceptred isle’ on our stages this summer,
we wanted the accompanying visuals to reflect the eclectic nature of our
culture. We have brought diverse, modern visual representations of our nation
into dialogue with Shakespeare’s plays, with each hopefully shedding light on
the other.

We are privileged to have licensed photographs from such renowned
photographers as Tish Murtha, Pogus Caesar, Nick Hedges and Bridget Bishop. To
see all the artwork for the season, and full photography credits, please refer
to our season brochure

Love’s Labour’s Lost in rehearsal.

Eight actors create the world of Love’s Labour’s Lost in a style inspired by a Victorian children’s pop-up book. Originally written for the indoor Blackfriars Theatre, it is perfectly at home in the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

Love’s Labour’s Lost opens 23 August 2018.

Othello in rehearsal.

Claire van Kampen directs Shakespeare’s

all too human story

tale of jealousy and betrayal. The wasteland of death may be both Iago’s goal and his harvest, but the stage belongs to Othello, a man who loved perhaps unwisely and too well.

Othello opens 20 July 2018.
